Rent receipt format with a partial-payment example

A rent receipt should identify who paid, who received it, the property and period, the amount received and the payment date. For a partial payment, include the remaining balance so both people have the same record.

A receipt describes a payment already received

A ₹7,000 bill is not a ₹7,000 receipt if only ₹4,000 arrived. The sample below records ₹4,000 received against the September bill and leaves ₹3,000 due. Replace sample details with the actual transaction when preparing your own record.

Include enough detail to identify the payment

Keep the tenant and landlord names, property and room, rental period, receipt date, amount, payment method and a useful reference where available. Requirements can differ depending on why the receipt is being used; this is a simple payment-record example, not a guarantee of tax acceptance.

Generate the receipt from the payment record

MyRentMitra offers Share Receipt after Record Payment. Review the amount and balance before sharing. This avoids retyping the numbers into a separate message every time a tenant pays.

Common questions

Can I issue a receipt before payment?

A receipt should record money already received. Use a bill to communicate an amount due.

Can the receipt show a balance?

Yes. It is helpful when the tenant has paid only part of the bill.

Start with one tenant and one bill.

Add your rental details, create monthly bills and keep track of payments.
